The eco-friendly Elms
Sustainability is woven into everything we do at Birmingham Day Nurseries. Whether it’s reducing plastic at nursery, reusing resources or growing our own vegetables, we’re committed to nurturing the next generation of eco warriors.
So, when Recycling Week (14 – 20 October) rolled around, we couldn’t resist getting stuck into some hands-on educational fun at The Elms Day Nursery. Our sustainable lead, Reo, worked with our friends at University of Birmingham’s Cleaning and Waste Services to lead the children in some fun recycling activities.
Our little ones had a blast creating bird feeders from recycled materials, and discovering that everyday items don’t have to be thrown away – they can be transformed and reused. This creative project sparked their imagination and taught them the value of repurposing. It was also a great way to divert rubbish from landfill, while lending a helping hand to our feathered friends.
There were also sorting games, helping children learn which bins are used for different types of rubbish. These interactive lessons made recycling fun and easy to understand, equipping children with the skills they need to recycle at home. The session was so engaging that many left eager to share their newfound knowledge with their families.
And that’s what we’re all about at Birmingham Day Nurseries – helping to enrich the lives of both children and their families. We’re proud to have strong partnerships with parents and carers, which means that learning can extend far beyond the playroom.
