Yoga, music, sport and more: Birmingham Day Nurseries’ activity programme
Many hands
Dance and drama teachers will give your child the chance to learn ribbon routines, act out stories and match their movements to music. Cookery helps your child develop their motor skills, discover new foods, and work co-operatively with others. Local dentists visit during Smile month, to help your child learn about healthy choices.
A yoga teacher brings calm and helps your child develop flexibility, listening skills and recall as they remember the movements. And Martin the Music Man is a beloved fixture, with his guitar and an endless supply of action songs.
All these activities foster creativity and self-expression. They’ll have positive effects on your child’s mental wellbeing as well as their physical health.

Seasonal extras
At Birmingham Day Nurseries you’ll also find an ever-changing programme of seasonal activities. Toddler Tennis marks the start of Wimbledon, and in summer we welcome a brilliant PE teacher to both the day nurseries to help your child aged 3+ work off some steam, with sports-based adventures and assault courses.
Parents who’d like to get involved in our Extra Activities programme are always welcome, to celebrate special moments together such as making traditional food to share for Chinese New Year.
Another highlight of our year is the annual graduation, when we mark the transition up to school for our 5-year-olds with a ceremony and party. Held on the University campus, it’s become a really special day for children and parents alike.
Part of a community
Children love our playrooms and outdoor spaces. But sometimes we’ll take your child out of the nursery – with your permission of course – to experience the partnerships we’ve made in our local community.
Your child might visit the library, or ride in a ‘Turtle Bus’ to the duck pond, collecting leaves and jumping in puddles. Children at The Elms love to visit the dinosaurs at the Lapworth Museum. The Oaks is partnered with a local care home, and children visit to sing songs or show off their Easter bonnets. Both nurseries have a connection with a local allotment and a church, too. These activities are more than just great fun. Your child is always learning with us: to listen to instructions, behave in a new environment and act safely, while engaging their senses, developing their communication skills and working together.
There are also summer and winter excursions, and we love it when you come along too! But with all our outings you choose whether you’d like your child to participate, and if you’d prefer them to stay in the nursery we make sure they have plenty of fun there too.
