Our daily sessions

We’re open 51 weeks of the year,

We have a car park, and we’re easy to get to by car or

by public transport. Check the map.

We’re open to everyone.

You can find The Elms near the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus – but you’re still very welcome if you don’t have a connection to the university.

Our rooms

Owl Room

Babies to Sixteen Months

The baby area is a self-contained peaceful space for babies from six weeks and up. There’s a fully-functional kitchen and a separate sleeping area with tranquil lighting, giving your little one a soothing place to rest. Activities include sensory and messy play, sharing books, action songs and nursery rhymes. The baby room flows freely into its own lovely safety-surface outdoor play area, making sure your child will get plenty of fresh air.

Rabbit Room

Under Twos

Rabbit Room is small and cosy, retaining some of the beautiful original features of the Victorian listed building. Your child will enjoy stimulating, fun activities as their movement becomes more confident and their needs develop.

Squirrel Room

Under Twos

Squirrel Room is a larger playroom which offers lots of space for your child to satisfy their growing curiosity. There’s a spacious, safe outdoor play area. The book corner, creative area and home corner provide stimulation and comfort.

Foxes Room

Twos to Threes

At this age your child will be developing a much greater sense of self-awareness, and the knowledgeable, approachable staff plan fun, challenging activities that will encourage their language and communication skills. Your child will be supported as they learn empathy, and how to share and interact with others. Staff will pay close attention as your child develops key motor and physical skills.

Badger Room

Twos to Threes

Your child will enjoy creative activities and messy play, and be guided to share books and stories, nursery rhymes and action songs in this bright, airy space. Little beds are provided for children in Foxes and Badger Rooms who need a nap, and there’s a separate area for nappy changes and toilet training nearby. In the easy-access outdoor play area, they can play on the bikes, dig, splash in puddles – or take time out and observe their friends.

Deer Room

Threes to Fives

The Pre-School rooms are light, bright, spacious environments where your child can really flourish. They’ll make choices about their own activities, and be actively encouraged to share their own ideas about future plans. Imaginative, inspiring play is key, from construction, sand and water activities to pretend play. The book corner, art area and home corner offer space for quiet focus as well as fun stimulation. Every activity is carefully planned to develop independence, social skills and self-confidence – all to help your child gradually prepare for their transition to school.

Outside space

As well as the Forest School, The Elms Day Nursery offers an impressive range of outdoor play environments, including a big grassy space, and three safety-surfaced play areas. Your child will be able to access outdoor areas throughout the day – we wrap up when it’s rainy!

Dining

Healthy food and drink plays an essential role in your child’s development. Your child will be provided with morning and afternoon snacks and drinks, fresh fruit and water, and a nutritious hot lunch.

Ready to join the Elms?

Before your child starts at The Elms, we’ll arrange short ‘settling in’ sessions, to help them – and you! – become comfortable and familiar with the environment. And of course you’re welcome to ask us any questions, and to come in for a look around, before you make such an important choice.
